Dec 6. Small things that happened and some that did not / One day exhibition by Anna Koch

Small things that happened and some that did not explores and utilises the exhibition format itself as a place that connects time, creates artistic threads between works and provides an opportunity to revise, add or reflect on them anew. Over the years, Anna Koch has created a number of video, text and sound works that are now being shown for the first time at Weld. The spatial format is explored here. Materials and walls taken from Weld’s storage become sculptural objects that are projected, activated and worked with.

The works on display originate from a number of ongoing collaborations and encounters. In the video Handle with care, a collaboration with British composer Claudia Molitor, small materials from nature have been carefully choreographed and composed.

The text and sound work Magiska Formler, with sound by Tomas Björkdal, sets words in motion and is an everyday poetic reflection on grief and the spaces where grief takes place. It talks about alternative funerals and how we prepare, but also questions how we choose to talk about death, with what words and with whom.

The video Working hands is a serial repetition of hands in motion, shown one by one in silence. Fourteen people talk about their own and their ancestors’ hands at work. The video In Motion is a collaboration with the artist Julia Bondesson and one of her sculptures. Here, movement hangs on a delicate thread.

Small things that happened and some that did not move through different tempus and temporalities. Small things happen even now, when works are put together for the first time. When something has already become something else. It happens when spheres of interest gravitate towards dreams and visions of what has not yet happened.
